Description

The Poller chest tomb, located approximately 1.5 metres north of the nave of the Church of St John, is a chest tomb likely dating from the 17th century, commemorating William Poller. It is constructed from volcanic ashlar and has a rectangular shape with plain sides. The plinth is buried, and the tomb features an unusually thick flat lid with a richly-moulded soffit. The lid bears an inscription in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, which records the death of William Poller, although the date has worn away.
