Description
The lych gate, churchyard wall, and raised pavement are located to the south and west of the churchyard. The lych gate dates from the late 19th century, while the wall and raised pavement have been extensively restored in the 19th and 20th centuries but likely date back much earlier. The lych gate is timber-framed with a slate roof and serves as the south entrance to the churchyard. It is set atop a flight of four wide granite steps and features a simple design with plain single posts at each end, braced to support the gabled roof. The original wooden gate remains intact. To the left, the churchyard wall extends forward, curving around to support the south side of the churchyard before continuing along the west side. The wall is tall due to the churchyard being elevated above the road. A raised pavement encircles the outside of the wall and was repaired around 1980, with new railings fixed into concrete posts. This lych gate, churchyard wall, and raised pavement contribute to the setting of the significant Church of St John.
