Description
This granary, located approximately 3 metres north of Lower House, was built in 1780 by John Venn. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick with decorative burnt headers and has a corrugated iron roof, which was originally thatch. The granary has a square plan, featuring a ground floor storeroom, a first floor granary, and a loft in the roofspace. Positioned alongside the road, it has a ground floor doorway on the south-east side that faces the courtyard, which contains the original plank door hung on strap hinges. There are blocked loading hatches at each end of the granary, as well as windows in the front and back walls, both of which were glazed in the 20th century. The gable-ended roof has terracotta plaques under each gable, displaying the initials of John and Anne Venn along with the date 1780. The interior retains mostly original plain carpentry and joinery details.
