Description
The Carslake chest tomb, dated 1735, is located adjacent to the south side of the chancel of the Church of St Winifred in Branscombe. This chest tomb is constructed from Beerstone ashlar and features plain sides, a chamfered plinth, and a soffit-moulded flat lid. The south side is inscribed with Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, commemorating the death of John Carslake in 1735 along with an epitaph. Additionally, a Latin prayer is inscribed along the front edge of the rim in Gothic style lettering.
