Description

Nos. 20 to 72 (even) form a row of early 19th-century properties. The majority have red brick facades, although Nos. 20, 22, and 46 are colourwashed, and Nos. 38 and 40 are colourwashed roughcast. Nos. 38 and 40 feature an eaves band and a coped blocking course. Roofs are generally tiled or slate, except for Nos. 38 and 40 which have corrugated asbestos, and No. 46 which has modern pantiles. The buildings are two and a half stories high, each with one dormer window. Most properties have two windows, though Nos. 38 and 40 have three, and form a pair. The windows are predominantly sash windows with glazing bars, with some first-floor windows blanked. No. 20 includes an early 20th-century two-story rectangular bay window. Doorcases are varied, including pedimented designs (Nos. 22, 24 to 28, 32 and 34) and Tuscan styles (Nos. 24 to 28, 32, and 34). Nos. 36 and 42 have simple doorcases featuring a cornice, flat hood, and pilasters, while No. 44 has a segmental arch over two doors. Nos. 22 to 28, 32 to 42 and No. 48 have six-panelled doors. Fanlights are present above the doors of Nos. 24, 26, and 32 to 48, with some featuring tracery. No. 50 has a stucco facade and, like the other properties, is two and a half stories high with one dormer. Original features have largely been removed from here. Nos. 52 to 72 are also early 19th century, with generally red-brick facades. No. 72 has a stone rubble end wall, and No. 58 is colourwashed roughcast with a band at first-floor level. Again, roofs are generally tiled or slated. Nos. 52 to 66 are two stories, with the remaining properties being two and a half storeys. The windows are generally sash windows with glazing bars, although No. 56 has modern casements where sash windows previously existed, and No. 64 possesses a modern reproduction bow ground floor. Nos. 52, 54, 60, 62, 70, and 72 have pedimented doorcases. No. 58 has a simple doorcase with a cornice, flat hood, and pilasters, and No. 56 has a round arched door with archivolt and impost bands. Nos. 54, 58 to 62, and 66 to 70 have six-panelled doors, while fanlights are found above the doors of Nos. 52 to 72.
