Description
Almshouses. Built in 1820, these are a long range of stone rubble almshouses with freestone dressings, constructed in a Gothic style. They have a steeply pitched roof covered in shaped tiles, with crested ridge tiles and gabled ends. Very deep, overhanging eaves are supported on thin iron posts, forming a verandah. Each house features a moulded, four-centred arch doorway with a nail-studded door, and windows with a similar arch and casement, complete with Gothic glazing bars. Five red brick chimney stacks rise from the ridge, with a central stack bearing a stone tablet inscribed "AD1820." The almhouses were erected by the Baroness Rolle.
