Description

The barn and cider house, dating from the late 16th to early 17th century, are located at the west end of Hugginswick Farmhouse and were rebuilt in the early to mid-19th century. The structure is made of exposed local stone and flint rubble, topped with a corrugated iron roof that was originally thatch.

The building consists of a threshing barn and an adjoining cider house, both facing south and built down the hillside in line with the farmhouse. The barn features opposing full-height doorways leading onto the threshing floor, with the cider house located to the left (west) under the same roof, which includes a passage at the left end.

On the exterior, the barn has full-height double doors positioned just right of the center. To the left, there is a smaller doorway with a hayloft loading hatch above it, and further left is the entrance to the passage through the cider house. The roof at both ends meets the adjoining buildings.

Inside, the barn showcases plain 19th-century carpentry details, while the A-frame roof incorporates reused side-pegged jointed cruck trusses, although the cruck feet are missing. The cider house contains a 19th-century cider press.
