Description
Churchill Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 16th century, originally built as a hall house, with a floor and chimneys added in the 17th century. It features a concrete tile roof with gabled ends and stands two storeys high with a three-window range. The central ground floor window is a 6-light chamfered wood mullion window, while the other windows are modern metal frame casements. The gable ends have rebuilt brick chimney stacks. There is a later wing to the south-west, which was formerly an outbuilding, constructed of rendered stone rubble and topped with a corrugated iron roof.
Inside, the farmhouse has jointed cruck trusses, which are said to exhibit some smoke blackening in the roof. There is a plank and muntin screen at the higher end, and a framed ceiling has been inserted in the hall, featuring deeply chamfered beams. An inserted chimney includes a massive four-centred arch with a chamfered timber beam, and there is a smaller but similar fireplace at the higher end.
