Description
This barn, located approximately 5 metres south of Underdown Farmhouse, dates from the mid to late 19th century, possibly a little earlier. It is constructed from local stone and flint rubble, with a corrugated iron roof that was likely slate originally. The barn is situated down a hillslope and faces north-east. It features central opposing doorways that lead onto the threshing floor, along with a hayloft loading hatch at the uphill left end. To the right, there is an open-fronted cartshed that shares the same roof. The roof is half-hipped on the left side and hipped on the right. It is supported by A-frame trusses with spiked lap-jointed collars. This barn, along with other nearby traditional farm buildings, contributes to a group with the attractive Underdown Farmhouse.
