Description
Higher Checkridge Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 17th century or earlier. It is constructed of stone rubble, with some parts rendered, and features a thatched roof that is clad in corrugated iron, having half hipped ends. The building is two storeys high and has 20th-century casement windows. At the south-east end, there is a two-light hollow chamfered stone mullion window. A brick ridge stack is positioned off centre. There is a wing to the north-east that forms an L-shaped plan, also made of stone rubble, with a thatched roof clad in corrugated iron and a gabled end. This wing has a blocked pointed arch doorway and a circa 19th-century lean-to porch in the angle. The interior has only been partly inspected, revealing a stopped chamfer ceiling beam and a plank and muntin screen at the south-east end.
