Description
The Leigh chest tomb, dated 1787, is located adjacent to the south side of the tower of the Church of St. Winifred in Branscombe. This chest tomb is constructed from beerstone ashlar and features a plain base and a soffit-moulded flat lid. The sides are plain, with a shallow moulded frieze. On the south side, there is a central plaque that stands slightly proud from the main sides. This plaque is inscribed with Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, commemorating the death of Thomazine Leigh in 1787.
