Description

The Lee chest tomb, dated 1658, is located approximately 400 millimetres south of the porch of the Church of St Winifred in Branscombe. It commemorates William Lee and is made of Beerstone ashlar. The tomb has plain sides and a soffit-moulded flat lid. The south side features an inscription in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering that notes the death of William Lee in 1658, along with a charming epitaph. Additionally, the north end bears an inscription marking the death of his wife, Charity, in 1708 at the age of 94.
