Description
The Old Manor Hotel, which includes an adjoining cottage range to the west, is a building that has been converted from a house. It likely dates back to the early 16th century and originally featured an open hall. The structure was extended and had a floor inserted in the 17th century. It is constructed of stone rubble and has a thatched roof with gabled ends, including a stone coping on the east gable. The building is two storeys high with an attic and has a long range of eight windows. The windows are wood mullion types, ranging from one to five lights, and feature leaded panes. The doors are made of planks. To the left of the center, there are two bays that project slightly. The roof has three thatched dormers and there are brick chimney stacks at the ridge and ends. At the rear, there are two gabled staircase wings, one made of brick, and a gabled wing at the north-west end, creating an L-shaped plan. The east end features a semi-circular oven and a stone mullion window.
Inside, the building has jointed cruck trusses and two heavily built open-well staircases from the 17th century. These staircases have moulded balustrades, square newels with finials, and moulded strings, with one featuring a pulvinated frieze and dog-gate. The ceilings have stop-chamfered beams, and there are fireplaces with chamfered bressummers, two of which include bread ovens. On the first floor, there is a stone Tudor arch chimneypiece from the early 17th century, while the ground floor has a wooden chimneypiece from the 17th century, complete with a pilastered and panelled overmantle. The adjoining cottage range, built at an obtuse angle at the west end, has a slightly curved front, is made of stone rubble, and has a hipped thatched roof. It is two storeys high with a five or six window range and features a brick ridge chimney stack.
