Description
The Arthur headstone, located approximately 11 metres south-south-east of the vestry of the Church of St Mary, is a Grade II listed structure. It is dated probably 1779 and commemorates Elizabeth Arthur. Made of hamstone, the upright slab stands about 1.1 metres high and features a shaped head carved with a winged cherub's head and scrolls. The central panel is framed with scrolled foliage. The inscription is in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, which is very lightly incised and records the death of Elizabeth Arthur, although the date is difficult to discern, appearing to be 1779.
