Description
The gates and gate piers to Manor Farmhouse in Manningford Bohune were built in 1882, attributed to the architect JA Chatwin and manufactured by Hardman & Co. The gate piers are made of Portland stone, featuring wrought iron gates and railings.
There are four stone gate piers, with the two central piers set back and connected by curved dwarf walls and decorative railings. To the left is a pedestrian gate, while a pair of main gates is situated between the central piers. The piers are rusticated and panelled, topped with a dentilled cornice and ball finials. The walls have moulded copings and support railings adorned with elaborate floral scrolls. The ironwork includes detailed berry motifs, depicting raspberry or blackberry, mistletoe, sycamore, and holly.
The pedestrian gate on the left features an overthrow with the date 1882 and the initials JG, representing Joseph Gillott II. This gate also includes a lantern and a bell pull with a pivoted bell. To the right, there is a similar overthrow and lantern, but without a gate.
