Description
The stable block at Trowle House, dating from the late 18th century, is now partly used as a dwelling and for storage. It features a front made of limestone ashlar and a stone slate roof with coped verges and a stone stack on the left side. The building is single-storey with a loft and consists of seven bays. The central three narrow bays project slightly forward and are accented with chamfered quoins and a pediment. There is a 19th-century central door with arched glazed panels, flanked by 8-pane sidelights that are set in beaded architraves, with transom lights above the door and sidelights, also beaded.
On the left side, there are two bays containing a 6-panelled door and a large 16-pane sash window, while the right side has a cross window and a double planked door. The structure is topped with a moulded cornice featuring corner pilasters and a plain blocking course, and it has a large stone urn finial on the pediment. There are two hipped attic dormers, each with 2-light casements. The left return wall has 2-light mullioned casements, which may be blocked or fitted with leaded lights. The rear of the building features large double doors in the center, with lean-to extensions on both sides; the right extension is part of the dwelling. There is one blocked 2-light beaded mullioned casement and a 2-light cyma-mullioned casement on the right side, along with a hipped attic dormer that has a 2-light casement. The right return wall includes a blocked doorway and a blocked oculus.
