Description
Nos 1 and 2 Church Lane are two houses dating from the 16th century, which were rebuilt in 1750. They are constructed from rubble stone and feature an imitation stone slate roof, with stacks at the north and east ends. The buildings are two storeys high and have an L-plan layout. No 2, which faces north, was rebuilt in 1750 and includes bead-moulded flush mullion windows, with two-light and three-light windows above, and a three-light window with a dripstone and door below. A datestone marked RBR 1750 is present. The cross wing at the west end extends north and has a large pair of casement windows with a timber lintel on the west front, along with a door and a single casement window on the ground floor, and a pair of casement windows above. The rear wall features brick-lined openings from around 1900. Inside, the cross wing has a two-bay area that may have been a former open hall, with tie-beam trusses on each side and an arched-braced collar truss with a cambered collar in the centre. There is no smoke blackening on the centre truss. The west wall has been built out, and the west side of the centre truss has been removed.
