Description

The Old Coach House is a coach house and stables that were originally part of Semington House, now functioning as a detached house. It dates from the 1790s and features a limestone ashlar front, with rubble stone on the rear and returns, topped by a Welsh slate hipped roof and ashlar stacks. The building is two stories high with an attic and has three windows.

On the left side, there are large elliptically-arched double doors, while a smaller arched opening to the right includes a recessed porch that leads to a 20th-century entrance with a half-glazed door, which was brought from Semington House. The first floor has elliptically-arched sash windows, with a large 24-pane window in the center flanked by smaller 12-pane windows, and a gable above that features pigeon holes for a dovecote.

To the right, there is a single-storey former stable with two 2-light flush mullioned casements and a five-step stone mounting block at the front. The former stable and tack room on the left has two planked doors and a 2-light mullioned casement. The right return has a 20th-century bow window inserted, and the rear has 20th-century casements.

The interior was converted into a dwelling during the 1970s, but some original features, such as iron bridle hangers and tethering rings, have been retained. The building was constructed for the Bruges family of Semington House.
