Description
The Semington War Memorial is a First World War memorial built before 1924, with alterations made after the Second World War and the Korean War. It is made of granite and is situated in the churchyard of the Church of St George, which is also listed at Grade II.
The memorial features a simple Celtic cross adorned with incised Celtic knotwork on the principal (east) face, standing on a three-step base. The top step on the east side is inscribed with the years 1914-1918, while the bottom step bears the inscription "THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE." The names of those who lost their lives in the First World War are carved into the middle step. The top step on the south side is inscribed with 1939-1945, and the names of those lost in that conflict are listed on the middle step's north and south sides. The west side features the inscription "KOREA – 1951" on the top step, with the name of the one individual lost in that conflict inscribed below.
