Description

Highfield House, now a hotel and restaurant, is a detached house dating to the late 18th century. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with a Welsh slate roof, featuring coped verges and gable end stone stacks. The house is three storeys high, with a three-window front. The central entrance has a 6-panelled door with a fanlight, set within a pedimented architrave with pilasters. There is a 16-pane sash window either side of the door. A plat band runs along the window sills of the first floor, and three further 16-pane sash windows are present. A cornice sits above a plain blocking course, with pilasters rising from the ground to the eaves. Rubble stone returns are present, along with lead rainwater goods. The rear of the building is rendered. A two-storey wing projects to the right, and a two-storey lean-to extension projects to the left. The rear roof and extension roofs are covered with double Roman tiles. The interior has not been inspected. Rubble stone walls support cast-iron spearhead railings that run along the front of the property, attached to central square gate piers with a cast-iron gate, all likely dating to the same period as the house.
