Description

The railway viaduct, built around 1846, spans the west driveway to Clarendon House for the Salisbury-Southampton railway. Designed by engineer Joseph Locke for the London and South Western Railway, it is constructed of red brick with stone dressings. The viaduct features three large arches between its abutments, which are adorned with raised pecked quoins, stepped voussoirs, and a vermiculated keystone. A cyma cornice and a string course run along the base of the low brick parapet, which is topped with square stone copings. Each pier of the viaduct includes a transverse arch.
