Description
The Old Rectory is a detached house built in 1816 by Jennings and Skeate, with additions made in 1869 by J. Fowler of Louth, and a north extension from the late 19th century. The building features pebbledashed brickwork and a hipped roof covered with Welsh slate, arranged in an L-plan. It is two stories tall with a six-window front. The entrance is marked by an early 19th century six-panelled door with a fanlight, located in a square porch. To the left of the porch is a two-story canted bay with 12-pane sash windows, while to the right is a 16-pane sash window and a small fixed window in the late 19th century three-story wing. The first floor includes 12-pane sashes in the bay and above the door, a four-pane width sash to the right, and 16-pane sashes on both the first and second floors of the wing. The eaves are deep.
On the left return, there is a central canted porch with a glazed door, a 12-pane sash to the right, and 6-pane sashes to the left. The first floor features a mix of sashes and casements. The right return has a three-story north wing with a casement window on the ground floor only, and 16-pane sashes at the rear of this wing. The rear of the main range has both 12-pane and 16-pane flush sashes. Inside, the property boasts a turned newel staircase, fluted fireplaces, and six-panelled doors dating from around 1815, along with matching mid-19th century fittings, including classical marble fireplaces.
