Description
The Baptist Chapel, founded in 1689 and rebuilt in 1797, is approached by steps from the road under an archway at No 14B. The building is constructed of ashlar and features three windows on two levels, which are two-light pointed windows with Y-tracery and casements that have Gothic glazing bars. It has a moulded cornice and a plain parapet. The central doorway is square-headed and has panelled double doors, each with three panels. The stone doorcase is adorned with Tuscan three-quarter columns on pedestals, an entablature, and a pediment. Wrought-iron lamp brackets are also present, and there are six steps leading up to the door. The chapel is part of a group that includes The Three Horseshoes, Nos 1 to 4 Frome Road, the Liberal Club, the Congregational Church and Hall, and several other listed buildings on St Margaret's Street and St Margaret's Hill.
