Description

The Swiss Cottage is a detached house built in the late 19th century. It features rockfaced limestone with brick dressings on the ground floor and timber-framing with brick nogging on the first floor, topped with a tiled roof that has ceramic ridge cresting and diagonally-set brick stacks. The building is designed in a T-plan and includes a single storey with an attic.

The original porch has diamond glazing and a half-glazed door located at the south angle between the wing and the south range. To the right of the porch, there are single-light and two-light cast-iron casements. The house has one gabled dormer with a two-light casement and a finial at the gable. The left wing projects out and features a three-light casement on the ground floor, along with a square bay and a jettied attic bay with a gable. The left range has a single-light casement, while the left return includes a ground floor three-light casement and a jettied attic with a gable and another three-light casement. The right return mirrors the left with similar windows on the ground floor and a jetty above; all casements are made of cast iron.

The rear of the house has no windows and includes a single-storey extension with a slate roof. The interior was not accessible during the survey in October 1986. It is said to have been built by the Chafyn-Grove family of Zeals House and is considered an excellently preserved example of its type.
