Description

Parsonage Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse, possibly incorporating an earlier structure. It is built of rubble stone and has concrete tile roofs. The building has two storeys and an attic, arranged in an L-plan with a projecting gable on the left and a taller range attached to the left side.

The L-plan section features a 2-light hollow-moulded recessed mullion window above a door in a plain chamfered surround, topped with a hoodmould. The gable is coped. The two-window range to the right has an end stack and includes two first-floor 2-light chamfered recessed mullion windows with hoodmoulds, a ground-floor 3-light hollow-moulded recessed mullion window, and a 19th-century gabled porch. Inside the porch is an earlier Tudor-arched doorway.

To the right, there is a single-storey range of outbuildings that connects to a former stable at right angles. The taller range on the left has one 2-light first-floor mullion window with a hoodmould, positioned to the right of centre. The end wall has been refaced in the 19th century with ashlar stone and features two sash windows on each floor.

At the rear, the gable is closely flanked by two stacks, with an attic single light and a 20th-century window that has an original relieving arch above it, along with a blocked first-floor 2-light mullion window. A relieving arch near the corner indicates that this section may have originally extended further. The rear of the main range has a chimney gable on the right. This farmhouse is associated with the medieval estate of the Bradford on Avon parsonage, which was granted to the Dean and Chapter of Bristol at the Reformation.
