Three Monuments In Churchyard About 7 Metres Of Church Of St Martin

Three monuments in the churchyard about 7 meters north of the Church of St. Martin date from the early 19th century.

The first is the Carpenter monument, located about 7 meters north of the churchyard cross. It is made of ashlar stone and features baluster angles, with sunk oval plaques on each side flanked by urns in niches and cherub heads. The monument has a moulded base, a cornice with a fluted frieze, and a ridged capstone. The inscription commemorates a member of the Carpenter family.

The second monument is the E. Pinniger monument, situated about 2 meters northwest of the Carpenter monument and dating to around 1800. This monument is also made of ashlar stone and has square baluster angles, a moulded base, and a cornice. It features two framed square plaques on each side, with inscriptions for E. Pinniger, who died in 1799, and C. Pinniger of Coniage, who died in 1827.

The third is the Gingell monument, located about 4 meters east of the Carpenter monument and dating to around 1845. This monument is made of pennant stone and has baluster angles with husk drops. The south side features a plaque flanked by two large angels holding a crown above. The inscription commemorates G. Gingell of Naish House.
