Description

This is a pair of houses located on the south side of High Street, Malmesbury. They were built in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The construction is of limestone rubble with brick ridge and gable stacks and a stone slate roof. The houses have a single-depth plan and are two storeys high with an attic. Each section originally had a single window bay.

Architecturally, the houses feature chamfered timber lintels above the window and door openings. There are two pairs of central doorways with 20th-century doors. Number 117 has a 10/10-pane sash window on the right-hand side and an 8/8-pane sash window on the first floor, both in exposed frames. Number 119 has a wide former shop window with a 6-pane replacement window. All other windows are casements. Each section has a single gabled dormer window in the roof.

The interior of number 123 includes a stone fireplace on the left-hand side with a chamfered reveal and a bressumer above. A rear bread oven is located to the left. There is also a stone fireplace with a chamfered reveal and bressumer, a rear bread oven, ceiling beams with wide chamfers and run-out stops, and a 20th-century staircase to the right of the stack. The roof structure incorporates lapped collars to the trusses.
