Description
The barn at Lowland Farm is a Grade II listed building dating from the mid to late 18th century. It features a timber frame with 20th-century weatherboard cladding on a brick plinth and a corrugated asbestos roof that is hipped to the south and half-hipped over the stable to the west. The barn has an aisled L-plan layout with a loft above the stable at the west end. There are 20th-century hipped midstreys. The stable is constructed of sarsen stone and English bond brick, with windows on either side of the door.
Inside, the south end consists of 4½ bays, aisled to the east, and has jowled and arch-braced posts supporting a collar-truss roof with butt purlins. The later 18th-century six-bay barn to the west includes a north aisle and features jowled and straight-braced posts supporting a similar roof. The stable to the west has chamfered beams and a comparable roof. This barn is a notable example of a large outfarm barn from the 18th century.
