Row Of 4 Chest Tombs Approximately 3 Metres To North East Of Church Of St Andrew

This is a row of four chest tombs dating from the 18th century, located approximately 3 meters northeast of the Church of St Andrew in Chippenham.

The first tomb is about 2 meters east of the vestry and features a plinth, a moulded flat top, and ogee-based shields with roll edges, one at each end and two on the sides, which are articulated by pilasters with raised and field panels. The top is eroded.

The second tomb, also about 2 meters east of the vestry, is similar to the first.

The third tomb, located approximately 3 meters northeast of the vestry, dates from the early 18th century and has egg-and-dart moulding on its raised and fielded panels, with square centres on the sides flanked by similar narrow panels.

The fourth tomb, about 7 meters northeast of the vestry, is from the late 18th century and lacks a plinth. It has plain recessed panels and a stepped barrel top with broad vertical reeding tapering toward the ridge. The inscriptions on this tomb are illegible.
