Description
The barn at Puckshipton House is a Grade II listed structure, built before 1720. It features a timber frame resting on a greensand sill and has a thatched roof, although the east side has been replaced with corrugated iron. The barn consists of six bays and is aisled on both sides. There are cart doors in the fifth bay and openings in the first and second bays, which were converted to stables in the early 19th century. A garage extension is located at the north end.
Inside, the barn has tie beam trusses with raking struts supporting the principals and a high collar. The original single tier of purlins has been replaced with two tiers. There are double straight struts connecting the ties to jowled posts and jowled outer wall posts. The aisles are divided into bays, with a timber cattle feed trough situated between the arcade posts. A portion of the original cambered brick floor is still intact.
