Description

The Cottage is a house, dating from the late medieval period to the 17th century, originally timber-framed and now largely with painted brick, topped by a Bridgwater tiled roof. The north end of the house is a tall, square block with gables to the east and south, and a hipped angle at the north-west. A stack is located at the south end. The east end reveals timber framing and includes a small pair of first-floor casement windows with triangular heads. A 20th-century window is positioned at ground floor level. The framing is substantial, featuring angle braces and tension braces. A lower range extends south from the north block, mostly constructed of painted brick, and encompasses the original timber frame. The south gable, facing the road, has a cambered-head casement pair above a doorway and a 20th-century window below. A timber-framed former barn range runs west from the south end, partially encased in painted brick and partially weatherboarded, with two dormers and 20th-century ground floor openings. A low weatherboarded former stable extends beyond the barn. The interior is believed to retain remnants of a late medieval open hall, remodelled around 1600.
