Description
Chandlers Cottage comprises a pair of mirrored houses dating from the early to mid-19th century. The walls are solid and rendered, with number 56 featuring a finish intended to imitate ashlar. The roofs are slate-covered, and there's a rendered chimney on the right side wall. The houses are three storeys high. The ground and second storeys have a window at each end of the front, with a shared entrance in the centre. The third storey of number 58 has two windows, while number 56 features a single window to the right, suggesting a window was previously blocked to the left. The doorways are sheltered by a flat hood supported by three shaped wooden brackets. Number 56 has a six-panelled door, with the two lower panels being flush. Number 58 incorporates a mid-19th century shop window on the ground floor, characterised by six large panes and a moulded frame with mullions. All other ground and second-storey windows are segmental-headed. A second-storey window at number 58 has 20th-century wood casements with transom lights. The remaining windows, including those in the third storey, have two-paned sashes within box frames, each with a single horizontal glazing bar. The building is finished with a deep, flat eaves cornice.
