Description
Rose Cottage is a house located on Horsepool Street in Higher Brixham, dating from the early 19th century. It is likely a superficial remodelling of an 18th century or earlier building, which also incorporates No. 13, although that property is not included in this listing. The house features solid rendered walls that are incised with lines to imitate ashlar, while the left side wall is made of painted stone rubble. The roof is slated and hipped to the left. There are two old red-brick chimneys on the left side wall, with the rear chimney heightened in the late 19th or early 20th century.
The building is two storeys high, with one window to the left of each storey. To the right, there is a segmental-headed doorway that has a late 20th century half-glazed door. On the left side of the ground storey, there is a French window featuring Gothic glazing in the head, which includes a four-paned centre door with margin-panes and side-lights, each containing eight panes and similar in size to the margin-panes. The upper storey has a three-light wood casement window with three panes per light.
