Description
Brookdale, including the garden wall on the street frontage, is a detached house located on Horsepool Street in Higher Brixham. It was built in the early 19th century and features solid rendered walls with a slate-hung left side wall. The roof is hipped and slated, with two rendered chimneys positioned behind the ridge. The house is double-fronted and has a central stair hall, with a rear wing to the left.
The building is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window front facing southeast. The central doorway is adorned with a Greek Doric porch, which includes a triglyphed entablature and a triangular pediment. The door is a six-panelled design, with the top four panels now glazed. The windows are 8-paned sashes set in box frames, with the middle upper storey window being slightly narrower than the others. A deep, flat eaves cornice extends along the left side wall, which faces the street. This side wall features four small-paned wood-framed sash and casement windows, all of which are 20th century and placed irregularly.
On the rear wall, there are three smaller windows, and the eaves cornice continues along this elevation as well. A street sign reading "DASHPURS" is affixed to the wall, made of blue and white glazed tiles. The front garden is enclosed by a stone rubble wall approximately 1.8 meters high along its Horsepool Street frontage, featuring chamfered coping stones on edge. Incorporated into the wall are two stone rubble gate piers topped with pyramidal caps.
