Description
The Former GWR School is an infants' school built in 1857 by Moffatt and Scott. It is the only remaining part of the original school complex. The school closed in 1879, and the earlier buildings from 1843-1844 were demolished in 1881. After its closure, the former infants' school was repurposed as a works' laboratory. In 1883, a single-storey extension for the Great Western Railway's horse-drawn wagons was added to the north. The building features rock-faced snecked rubble in black mortar, with ashlar limestone quoins, and has a slate roof with apex rooflights. It is a single storey with four bays of paired shouldered lights and slightly projecting stacks that diminish at the eaves offsets.
