Description
25 and 26 Bathampton Street are a pair of cottages built between 1853 and 1854 for the Great Western Railway Company. They are constructed from ashlar limestone with black mortar and feature slate roofs with ashlar stacks. Each cottage is two stories high, has one bay with a side passage, and is two rooms deep with a rear outbuilding. The cottages have a low plinth and chamfered window and door surrounds. The doors are 20th-century, 18-pane designs, while the windows are four-pane sashes on both floors. The buildings underwent extensive renovation around 1972. They are similar in style to 1-3 Bathampton Street, but have distinct ashlar stacks. This terrace is part of a well-preserved and architecturally significant railway settlement designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, which was developed to accommodate workers for the Great Western Railway.
