Description

A terrace of 21 cottages was built between 1842 and 1843 for the Great Western Railway Company as part of a new village designed to house workers. The construction used coursed limestone rubble with stone dressings and slate roofs, with asbestos cement at the rear. The cottages are two storeys high; numbers 30 to 45 are single-bay, while numbers 46 to 50 are double-unit cottages with slightly projecting windows. The cottages are two rooms deep, with a rear lean-to staircase. Chamfered surrounds are present on the doors and windows. The door features pyramid stops and a flush hood label mould. The ground floor windows contain six panes, while those above have four panes, and the upper windows are fifteen-pane casements. Doors are inset on a splay. The cottages were extensively renovated around 1974 and are similar in style to numbers 1-23 Taunton Street and 6-24 Bathampton Street.
