Description

This is a house and shop dating to the 1840s, prominently situated on the north side of High Street in Marshfield. The building is constructed of ashlar stone with a concealed roof behind a coped parapet and a moulded cornice. It is three storeys high and comprises three bays, featuring end quoins and a continuous string course above the ground and first floors. The windows are sash windows with marginal glazing bars, set within plain architraves resting on brackets. A mid-19th century shopfront is located on the left-hand side, featuring two three-light windows between panelled pilasters, with central double doors incorporating round-headed lights. The shopfront has stone stall risers and a finely lettered fascia, and the interior retains original fittings including shelves and counters. A panelled door is situated to the right, flanked by two panelled pilasters. The building represents an intact example of a mid to late 19th century shop and is an important feature within the village streetscape.
