Description
The Gables is a house located on the north side of High Street in Marshfield, dating from the mid to late 17th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble with freestone dressings and features a Cotswold stone slate roof behind a coped parapet. The building has two storeys and an attic, with three stone gables. The façade consists of three bays, including two two-storey canted bays on the left, which have 1:3:1-light casement windows. The center bay features a 20th-century shopfront and door. The other windows are two- and three-light casement windows with moulded mullions and surrounds. There is a continuous string course above the ground and first floors, and drip moulds above the attic windows. To the right, there is a plank door set in a moulded surround. This house is a typical example of the gabled burgess house found in south Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds.
