Description

The Sturge monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 7 metres north of the chancel of the Church of St James the Great. It dates from the 18th century and is made of sandstone. The tomb features a flat top, a moulded base, and plain corner pilasters. There are oval panels on the north and south sides, each adorned with rosettes at the corners. This monument commemorates Richard Sturge, who died in 1779, along with other members of the family.
