Description

Townsend Farmhouse is an early 19th-century farmhouse with later alterations. It is constructed of rubble, rough cast and lined out, with stone dressings, a slate roof featuring raised coped verges and kneelers, and brick gable stacks. The symmetrical front elevation has two storeys and three windows, all 16-pane sashes in flat surrounds with cills. The first-floor central window has been blocked and painted over. A central 20th-century door is protected by a flat stone hood on shaped brackets, and the house features a plinth and quoin strips. The left return has a small plate glass sash window on the ground floor, and a smaller sash window on the first floor, both within matching surrounds. The right return includes a 20th-century first-floor window in a similar surround. The rear elevation has a catslide roof and includes a single-storey contemporary addition with a pitched roof to the right, and a single-storey lean-to to the right. An inner door has a segmental head and a two-light window with varied panes.
