Description
The White Hart is a 17th-century inn, with 19th and 20th-century additions and alterations. The building is constructed of rubble with stone dressings, brick, and has a Cotswold stone tiled roof coated in bitumen to the rear. It features raised coped verges with finials and kneelers, and gable stacks to the west and ridge. It is two and a half storeys high, with three windows; all are three-light casements with ovolo mullions and surrounds, and hood moulds. Some mullions are missing at the first floor. A two-storey gabled porch with a moulded surround and a hood mould to the door is set in the second bay from the left, with a two-light casement above featuring leaded lights. There are two dormer gables, each with a two-light 19th-century casement. A small gable to the right contains a two-light casement with a moulded mullion and hood mould. A one-and-a-half-storey wing to the left has a 20th-century three-light casement with ovolo mullions and a hood mould, and a loading door under the eaves. All ground and first-floor windows have external shutters. The right return features an attic window with two panes and a worn cornice, while the rear includes a small gable matching the front, a brick external stack, and extensive 20th-century single-storey extensions.
The ground floor interior has been completely remodelled in the 20th century, except for a single moulded beam and a chamfered beam with a step and scroll stop. A winder stair is located at each end of the building, leading to the attic. A basket-arched stone fireplace is set into the rear wall at the first floor. The accessible roof has five bays with a tie-beam under the floor, principal rafters, collar, two rows of purlins, and a ridge purlin with a plated yoke.
