Description
Wellinghouse Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the early 17th century, with alterations and extensions made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of random rubble and features double Roman and pantiled roofs, with a central stack and an external stack to the right. The building has a U-plan layout and was originally designed with a through passage. It stands two storeys tall with an attic and has three windows, all of which are 19th-century casements except for a 16-pane sash window on the ground floor to the left, which is set in a revealed box. The central door, which is 17th-century, is panelled and framed with a scroll-moulded design, and the house has two gables topped with ball finials.
To the right, there is a two-storey wing that contains a parlour and possibly a former dairy and bakehouse, which includes a projecting oven. To the left, a single-storey wing houses a cider-room. The rear of the house features a projecting two-storey stair tower and a central gable, with all windows being 19th and 20th-century casements set under timber lintels. There is a 19th-century plank door, and both the gable of the bakehouse and the central gable have blocked windows at their apexes, along with wooden coped verges.
Inside, the farmhouse has beams with quarter-round moulding and scroll stops. The hall, located to the right of the front door, includes a fireplace with a chamfered lintel that has scroll stops and an inglenook seat.
