Description

The Great Barn is a barn that has been converted into a house, dating from the 15th or 16th century, with later alterations. It is built of rubble with stone dressings and features a pantiled roof with raised coped verges and kneelers.

The east elevation has four 20th-century windows on the first floor, a gabled porch with a 20th-century door and window, and a 20th-century window to the right. The south elevation includes a 20th-century door set in a chamfered stone surround with a four-centred arch, a chamfered opening to the right with an iron lattice, and a 20th-century window on the first floor with a drip mould and relieving arch. There is a line indicating the former roof above and a small chamfered opening in the gable with an iron lattice.

On the west elevation, there are four windows, all from the 20th century with relieving arches, except for the second window from the right on the first floor, which has a basket arch and chamfered surround. There is also a small opening in a chamfered surround to the right and a single-storey extension to the north.

Inside, the porch features an inner four-centred arched opening with a chamfered surround. The ground floor has chamfered and stopped beams, while the roof consists of five bays with tie-beams and collars, two rows of purlins, and windbraces in the lower bays.
