Description
The Belsire monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 7 metres south of the aisle of the Church of St James the Great. It dates from the 18th century and is made of sandstone. The tomb features a flat top with a moulded edge and a moulded base, along with plain quarter balusters. Inscriptions are present on all sides. The south side has paired shaped panels depicting a central female figure in Grecian costume holding an anchor, surrounded by foliate designs. The north side displays paired panels with an urn in the central spandrel. This monument commemorates Samuel Belsire, who died in 1760, along with other family members.
