Description

The Townesend Chest Tomb, located 7 yards southeast of the Rood Stairtower of Holy Trinity Church, is a chest tomb commemorating John Townesend, who died in 1732, and his wife, who died in 1690. It is constructed from limestone ashlar and features square inscribed panels, corner balusters, and a moulded plinth and cornice. This chest tomb is part of a notable collection of local and classical tomb designs and significantly enhances the setting of the church.
