Description
The Wickwar War Memorial, designed by Norman Jewson in 1924, is constructed from local limestone. It features a wheel cross design with an octagonal wheel element, a tapering hexagonal column, and a hexagonal base. The top of the base has a moulded edge, and an inscription runs around the upper part of the six fields of the base, reading: IN·MEMORY·OF/THE·MEN·OF/WICKWAR/WHO·FELL·IN/THE·GREAT/WAR·1914·1918. Below this, the field is inscribed with AND·IN·THE/WORLD·WAR/1939-1945, while the remaining fields are blank. A moulded plinth supports the base, and the memorial is completed by a hexagonal platform with two steps, surrounded by a paved apron. It is located in the churchyard of the Church of the Holy Trinity, which is listed at Grade II*.
