Description
The Hicks chest tomb, located in the churchyard about 4 metres north of the north aisle of the Church of St. John, dates from the early 18th century. It is made of limestone, which was previously limewashed. The tomb features a flat top with a cyma recta moulded edge and a moulded plinth. The corners are scrolled, with oval shapes on the east and west sides, adorned with stars in the spandrels. There is an inscription on the west side and inscription panels on the north and south sides, which include carved flowers in panels beside them. The tomb commemorates Anne Hicks, who died in 1724, along with other family members, and includes an instructive verse.
