Description
The Batten monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 10 metres north of the chancel of the Church of St James the Great. It dates from the early 19th century and is made of sandstone. The tomb features a flat top with a moulded edge and a moulded base. It has quarter columns at each corner and shields on the east and west sides. There are raised oval panels on the north and south sides adorned with a garland of leaves and twined ribbons. The monument commemorates Robert Batten, who died in 1819, along with other family members.
