Description

Court Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, which underwent extensive remodelling in the early 19th century as part of the Fust Estate, with later alterations. The building is constructed of rubble and brick with brick dressings, featuring a slate roof on the main block and a single-storey pantiled roof on the east dairy, along with brick stacks. Originally designed with a through passage plan, it stands two storeys high and has three windows, all of which are 2 and 3-light casements set in flat gauged brick heads. The door located in the second bay from the right is framed by a trellis porch with a triangular hood and features a four-panelled and glass door in a plain frame. The dairy includes a 2-light casement window and a door.

On the west side, there are two windows similar to those on the front, while the east side has a ventilation opening in the dairy and a 2-light window at attic level, with one side headed and plank shutters behind. The rear of the farmhouse has a single-storey kitchen wing made of brick and rubble, which contains a 2-light casement window in a gauged brick segmental head and a gable stack. There is a covered passage leading to the rear of the dairy, and to the right, a ground floor casement features a carved upper section with rosettes and four glass bull's eyes, supported by a thick mullion, reset with a gauged brick flat head and brick apron, with 19th-century casement lights and a 3-light casement above.

Inside, there is a plank and batten door leading to the rear through passage, a 19th-century stair, and the first floor retains a plank door from the former winder. There is a change in floor level to the left of the passage, and heavy chamfered and stopped beams are present. The dairy has a stone flagged floor and lead-lined troughs. The farmhouse is marked on a map from 1659 of Hill, which was plotted for Edward Fust, then Lord of the Manor.
